Music majors & minors (undergraduate): Feb.To be admitted to the School of Music as a music major or minor, you must audition for entry to the School of Music. Please contact Professor Lapins for audition literature recommendations. Repertoire for the admission audition are generally selected from the traditional solo literature, etudes and, if possible, orchestral excerpts (where applicable). Auditions are advisory in nature regarding performance level. Auditions serve as criteria for admissions and scholarships and are held throughout the school year. Auditions are judged by the appropriate applied faculty and are normally arranged through the individual studio professor. In case of extreme distance or scheduling problems, a high quality cassette, CD or videotape may serve for provisional admittance. During your visit you will meet Professor Lapins, the conductors and, very likely, several of the students. In this way, the student can get a first-hand impression of the campus and the activity in the busy School of Music. It is preferred that auditions take place at the University. Additionally, an audition is required in the applicants' major performance field to determine proficiency and placement in the appropriate applied level. New students must meet the general requirements for admission to the University.
